HAVE YOU SEE WHO’S BEEN ARRESTED IN CHICAGO?

5 arrests have been made so far…

Having gained one of those rare restful moments when there’s absolutely nothing to do except sit back and unwind, I was just surfing the net when I saw this:

5 alleged Sinaloa Cartel members indicted in Chicago on cocaine conspiracy charges

Apparently, they were trying to set up a drug importing and distribution operation in Chicago.

Two fellows they were working with happened to be informants for the FBI, which is how they were busted.

Three of them are currently in Mexico; how (and if) they can be arrested remains to be seen.

Why am I talking about a drugs bust in Chicago?

Well for one, drugs are a serious problem, and as a responsible business Fox in a Box wants to tell you…

Apart from that…

Well, we’ve all watched the Sicario movies, Narcos and all those movies, right?

And we love doing escape rooms.

Here at Chicago’s best escape room, we’ve got escape games featuring:

  • A spy/military mission set in the Cold War.

  • An ‘escape a serial killer’.

  • A bank robbery.

  • And a prison breakout.

In light of the news about the drug bust in Chicago, I started thinking…

What are some drug cartel-based scenarios that could be turned into escape games?

Recover a drug stash

In recent years, drugs have flooded the city, leading to health problems and deaths from overdose. Cartel violence has followed.

You’re part of a DEA taskforce that was formed to crack down on the influx of drugs.

Working with your team, you gain information that a major shipment of drugs will arrive at a certain warehouse.

Also coming to the warehouse will be someone from the DA’s office who’s involved with the cartels.

Can you infiltrate the warehouse, stop the drugs from shipping out and get visual evidence of the individual from the DA’s office?

You have one hour!

For one, this scenario gives the player two objectives to win: stop the drugs from shipping and get photographs of the corrupt official.

Secondly, the task of getting photographic evidence can be a great hand-eye coordination task that can be placed at the end of the game, spicing things up!

Save your friend

Your friend, who joins you for pizza night every Sunday, hasn’t turned up for the last month.

Suddenly, he sends you a desperate message.

He got mixed up with the wrong crowd and has had to go on the run.

He’s innocent, but someone very clever has planted false evidence in his room to incriminate him in distributing drugs.

Can you help him out by getting into his room and recovering the evidence before the cops arrive?

Trouble in court!

Five alleged drug cartel members are being brought to trial.

You’re part of the DEA team that’s been working on this case.

On the day of the trial, an informant tips you off that the cartel has sent a hitman to the courthouse to eliminate a crucial witness.

Can you reach the courthouse, find the hitman and stop them from killing the witness?

You have one hour!

Okay, two things.

One, yes, this scenario was partly inspired by the courthouse scenes of The Untouchables.

Two, this could actually make for a great head-to-head escape room contest.

One team could be the DEA team sent to stop the assassin, while the other can be a team sent by the cartel to help the hitman.

What do you think?

The recent surge in drug activity has seen hospital admissions skyrocket.

You’re a team of doctors who specialize in treating drug overdose cases.

Someone who’s OD’d is brought in...but it’s not clear what drug he’s taken.

His vitals are precarious.

He may not live beyond one hour.

Can you find out what drug he took and administer the antidote in time?

Escape room games ARE being used in medical training.

An escape game modeled on a medical crisis would be a refreshing option.

Which of these would be your favorite escape game mission?
