Here’s what we know so far…
In 2019, we watched breathlessly as a group of six strangers struggled to find their way out of a dangerous escape room…

While two of them DID manage to escape, the movie ended on a cliffhanger, suggesting that the two winners were being lured into a new, and even more dangerous escape game.
Which brings us to 2021 - July 2021…

Escape Room 2: Tournament of Champions is slated to hit theatres on Friday, July 19th, picking up where the 2019 movie left off.
Why the interest in this particular film?

No, it’s not like this is the first movie to be based on escape rooms.
There have been other film franchises (like Saw and Cube) that are based on similar scenarios.
And then there was this in 2017…
OK, here’s the thing:
The other movies (Saw, Cube and so on) didn’t specifically feature escape rooms.
The 2017 movie was...not that memorable, let’s just leave it at that.
The 2019 Escape Room…
...was based specifically on an escape room.
Here’s how Wikipedia describes it…
{It}...follows a group of people who are sent to navigate a series of deadly escape rooms.
Plus, it was pretty damn good.
That’s what makes Escape Room 2: Tournament of Champions so appealing, and that’s why we’re blogging about it.

Relax, I’m not revealing any spoilers, only bringing you up to speed.
Escape Room 2 begins with Zoey Davis and Ben Miller, the survivors from the 2019 movie, teaming up to travel to New York and bring down the Minos Escape Rooms Corporation - the shadowy company behind the deadly escape room.

However, they soon find themselves trapped in another, more dangerous escape room, along with survivors from other escape rooms (hence the name Tournament of Champions).
Here’s the trailer:
Certainly looks to be a suspenseful movie, doesn’t it?
Who is in the cast?

As of June 25th, we know that Taylor Russell and Logan Miller are reprising their roles as Zoey and Ben from the first movie.
They’ll be joined by Holland Roden, Isabelle Fuhrman, Carlito Olivero and a few other actors.
It’s been directed by Adam Robitel, who directed the first movie.
What else do we know about the film?

Well, we do know that the very first escape game that the survivors (a.k.a. “champions) have to face is a rather “electrifying” experience aboard what they thought was a subway car.
We also know that they have to face an escape game based on a city bank, and another based on a beach town.
(Incidentally, we too have a bank-themed escape room; wonder whether it has any similarities to the one we think is in the film)

July 16th is the theatrical premiere; and from what I hear it’ll be available on Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu pretty soon.
If you want to watch it in a theater, start browsing websites to book tickets.
And if you’d rather watch it from the comfort of your home on a streaming service, hang on till it’s available!
If you haven’t played an escape room before…
You can check out Chicago’s finest escape room and get a feel of the concept.
You can also check out our blog on how the 2019 movie resembles real-life escape rooms.
And if all the talk about ‘dangerous escape rooms’ has made you nervous, here’s the thing: that’s just the movie.
Real-life escape rooms are pretty safe experiences, and players are never in any real danger.
So, are you excited about Escape Room 2: Tournament of Champions?
Are you going to watch it at a theater or on a streaming service?
Do you think there’ll be a sequel?
