Done?
Right. Let’s get back to foxes and escape rooms.
So, what exactly am I blogging about here?

Simple.
We’re going to take a look at certain traits, or characteristics, that foxes possess. And we’re going to decide whether that trait is a pro or a con when it comes to enjoying the escape room experience.
Seeing as we’re called FOX in a box, it’s a topic we should ponder, isn’t it?
Pro: Foxes have long been regarded as cunning
Image by Ray Hennessy on Unsplash.
Have you ever heard of ‘Reynard the Fox’?
He appears in a number of medieval stories, in a number of languages (including English, French, German, and Dutch).
He’s a red fox with an uncanny ability to outwit and manipulate his rivals.
More contemporary accounts too portray foxes as sneaky and clever, due to their nocturnal habits, skill at evading hunters, and ability to sneak into hen houses (for Henflix and Chill, what else?).
How is that a pro in an escape room?
Experience an escape room for yourself, and find out!
Con: Foxes are solitary creatures
Image by Ray Hennessy on Unsplash.
Seen how dogs like teaming up together? It’s the same with coyotes.
HOWEVER
Despite both being related to foxes, foxes are solitary creatures, who prefer to hunt and sleep alone.
Why is that a con in an escape room?
Escape room games are shared, participative experiences. In fact, they’re known to be great as a team building activity.
The exact opposite of what a solitude-loving player would want.
HOWEVER
You can always drag along your friend who says he/she prefers solitude on your next escape room outing.
Chances are, by the time it’s over, your friend will have shed their love for the solitary.
Pro: Foxes have extraordinary endurance

Foxes are known for their stamina.
For starters, they can run quite fast, clocking over 40 miles an hour.
Not only that; they can take physical strain well...covering long distances without getting tired.
How is that a pro in an escape room?
Well, if you want to do a Chicago escape room tour, you may need to be up and alert for hours as you go from escape room to escape room.
There’s a number of escape rooms scattered throughout our city.
Where should you start? The best escape room in Chicago, of course!
Con: Baby foxes can be violent

Baby foxes are pretty playful.
HOWEVER
They also have a tendency to establish an hierarchy within the litter, which sometimes leads to violence among them.
Why is that a con in an escape room?
Escape rooms are known to be a hit among young children, for example for birthday parties, school trips, and so on.
And we do like hosting children here at Fox in a Box (subject to a few conditions, of course).
That being said, if we see children engaging in any activity that might spoil our rooms, we will be forced to stop the proceedings and ask accompanying adults to get the children to vacate the room(s).
Pro: Foxes have good hearing
Image by Birger Strahl on Unsplash.
Red foxes have been reported as being able to hear a watch ticking from over 40 yards away!
In particular, they are said to be very sensitive to low-pitched sounds.
How is that a pro in an escape room?
Well, escape room challenges are multi-sensory. Some of the tasks may very well involve hearing abilities.
The verdict: Foxes and escape rooms

So, what’s the verdict?
On the whole, are fox-like traits good or bad for escape rooms?
